Interviewer is used to listening to responses from many candidates. He is expecting a minimum standard of confidence, clarity and communication skills. Many interviewers subconsciously decide in the first 2 minutes of discussion. Rest of the discussion is reconfirmation of decision.
Interviewer has asked this open-ended question so that you can give hints to him on where to take the decision. His next questions are to be on the topics you give in this introduction.
He is going to ask more open ended questions on the hints you have given and then he will go deeper in those areas and ask close ended questions.
From your responses he will determine:
- Depth of your knowledge in your area of expertise
- Experience you are claiming is true or not
- Situation and examples you are providing are not made up
- Loopholes in your story
- Match your skills with Job Description
- Your skills compared to other candidates
The Applicant:
This is an ice breaker question and is very important. This is where you make your first impression. Your response shall be more than the minimum standard of expectations. You shall dress nicely, look confident and speak with ease.
- Present your best self.
- You shall include aspects of your education, experience, skills where you are most confident.
- Keep them job related so take cues from Job Description.
- You shall be able to handle further questions in these areas.
- Your responses to all the questions shall tell an interesting story which stands out.

- Do not include anything just because it is in the Job Description and you have no knowledge about.
- Your responses in all the questions shall not contradict each other.
