Interview Preparation: Give me an example of a time that you felt you went above and beyond the call of duty at work.
The Interviewer:
He wants to elicit
1. Do you think about bigger goals and big picture?
2. Are you willing to put extra effort for success as a team?
3. Are you a person who cares about the final outcome or just about your scope of work and salary.
4. Your values, especially your commitment to your profession, humanity and nation.
The Applicant:
1. Clarify what exactly it means by beyond the call of duty. Different people may have different understanding of this.
2. There is rarely a life-or-death situation in people’s work life. For most people such examples are small and doesn’t include any excitement. So, think about examples in advance.
3. Find out examples from helping a colleague, working overtime, doing something out of your job description.
4. Learn to articulate small examples with interest.
