The Interviewer:
He wants to elicit
- Will you fit in the budget for Job?
- Internal grade to fit you in.
- Are your expectations too low or too high.
-- Low expectations may be construed as low skills and high expectation as high skills.
The Applicant:
- Negotiate or dictate from strength.
- Know your worth.
-- Speak to people in industry and find out what kind of salary others with similar skills are earning.
- Ask based on your situation and negotiation power.-- Use salary websites to know salary offered for such skills.
-- If you have a happy current job – you can aim higher.
-- If you have an unhappy current job – aiming higher may have risk of losing this opportunity.
-- If you don’t have a current job – you may ask as per industry standard.
- Never quote less than industry standard - as they may consider it as low skill.
